Tempered Stainless Steel Spring Wire

Stainless steel spring wire offers highly corrosion-resistant over carbon sping steel materials. Materials for manufacturing stainless steel springs are 302, 304, 304L, 316, 316L stainless steel and other grades stainless steel wires upon specific request for specific applications.

Features: Stainless spring wire is supplied with uniform and beautiful surface condition, stable linearity, excellent cast and helix, good coil-forming ability for the spring manufacture.

Process: Stainless steel springs are produced from tempered ss wire that is hardened for optimal durability and elasticity with an extensive elasticity range and fatigue strength.

304 stainless steel wire is a general-purpose wire material, with a spring temper, bright finish, and a precision tolerance. Our 304 spring wire meets American Society for Testing and Materials International ASTM A33 specifications.

Manufacturing Conditions:

• The wires shall be made with the melting process by using electric arc furnace alone or plus Vacuum Oxygen Decarburization Converter (VODC) or with other melting process.
• The wires shall be manufactured by cold drawing and delivered in cold-drawn condition.
• Each batch of the wires shall be of the same size, same furnace number (including heat treatment number), the same diameter and the same delivery conditions.
• The appearance and dimensional inspection should be performed coil by coil.
• The wires should be of coil shape and it should be in good order in the coil. The wires shall not become loose, twisted or 8 shape while opening the wire coil.
• There should be no scabs and weld joints.

Mechanical Properties:

• The mechanical property tests shall meet the following requirements:
• Tensile Test: The ultimate tensile strength (Rm) at room temperature shall be in the range of (1800-1990) MPa.
• Bend Test: The bending times of wires shall be at least 7.
• Wrap Test:During the wrap test, the wires shall be wound on itself as an arbor; after the test, there shall be free of rupture or cracks on the wires.
• Uniformity Test: Firstly, the wires shall be wound around an arbor with the diameter of Ø6.4mm to form a tightly wound spring; after winding, the spring shall be stretched to four times as its wound length to form permanent deformation; after the test, the spans of spring shall keep uniform.
• Cast Test: A loop or ring of wire shall be cut from the wires and thrown down to the floor; after the test, it shall lie flat on the ground, and shall not spring up or appear a wavy condition.

Intergranular Corrosion Resistance Property:

Sample sensitization at 650℃ for 2 hrs.
No Intergranular attack

Non-Destructive Testing:

• The surfaces of wires shall be bright, clean and free of contamination, and there shall be free of defects such as scaring over, lap, oxide crust, cracks, dimple and scratch etc. on the surfaces.
• Existence of local and fewer draw marks etc. are acceptable if their depth is less than 0.03mm.
• The surface quality of wires for each coil shall be inspected with naked eyes or by a magnifying glass with the magnifying power not greater than 5 times.

Re-Examination:

• In sampling tests, if the results of the specimens fail to meet the requirements for any item, double specimens shall be taken and retested for that item.
• Lot will be rejected in case re-examination is not qualified.

Packaging & Delivery Conditions:

• During handling, shipping and storage of wires, the packaging shall be moisture-proof and can prevent contamination.
• Each coil of wires shall have a label includes the following contents:
Name of Product, Steel Brand, Heat Number, Dimension, Weight, Date of Production and Name of Manufacturer.
